Multiple Instances SQL2K and 2005

Hi, we have a 2 node cluster running Server 2003 with a single instance of
SQL 2005. We are looking to migrate as many apps as possible to SQL 2005,
but will likely need to keep a SQL2000 instance. In addition, we want to
isolate some of the SQL databases that are web accessible and will setup an
instance for that. So, are there any reservations running this:
(2) SQL 2005 instances
(1) SQL 2000 instance
on the same cluster? We have Enterprise edition of the OS and SQL Server.
We plan to run a multi instance setup with an active and passive node so all
3 instances would run on the same node. The hardware should be able to
handle all 3 instances.
Also, any special steps to install SQL service packs in this scenario?

There is no issue running SQL 2000 and SQL 2005 on the same machine. I have
done so in Production with no issues. Infact I currently have SQL 2000, SQL
2005 and SQL 2008 installed on my laptop side by side.

Multiple instances of MSDE on same server?

can I install 2 separate apps from 2 separate vendors on the same machine,
if they both use MSDE? If so, is it simply installing a separate instance
for the 2nd install? Thanks.

Yes, that's usually what happens. Though different vendors do it
differently. Some will detect existing instances and ask if you want to use
one of them. I also remember seeing apps that just picked an arbitrary
existing instance if it found one.

Multiple Apps on Single SQL Server?

Question for the SQL experts.
We are installing new 2 - BL20p 3.6Xeon 1 - BL40p 3.0Xeon servers and
I wanted to know others opinions as to how to configure the SQL
databases.
Here are the applications that we will be loading. Sharepoint Portal
(125 users), Project Server (50 users) and SQL 2000.
The usage on these apps will not be heavy so can I consolidate all
databases to 1 server without any negative performance? Or should I
install SQL on BL40p and Sharepoint Portal and Project on another
server?
I am fairly new at SQL and I wanted to try and consolidate if possible.
Will a single instance be fine for all 3 apps?

Yes, you can consolidate all databases (at least those you mentioned)
to one MSSQL backend (whether you like to set it as one instance or
multiple instances).
No, it is better to have a dedicated server as a sorely Database Server
(MSSQL in this case), which separate from the application server(s).
It will be better to have Portal and Project install on its own server
as a application server but the databases stores in a separate
dedicated MSSQL Server.
